Simple Minds - New Gold Dream
I won a competition to see these guys at Wembley (old stadium) in the late 80's at the height of their pomp. Stadium gigs are awful and I couldn't bear them for a long time after but last year got back into this one in a big way. I think I pinched a cassette of this from one of my sisters. It is their best for a number of reasons - the synth/bass and drums are all sublime and it has a feeling of early 80's optimism as it was recorded in a good summer. They recently did the whole album live for a TV special and it holds up well.
