The Soft Boys - A Can of Bees

Robyn Hitchcock and his early band - later cult success was to come with "Underwater Moonlight" but there's a lot to love here with this Beefheart infused stew of psychedelia and punk skewered with Hitchcock's already florid wordplay. "I Feel like asking a tree for an autograph/and I feel making love to a photograph/Photograph's don't smell" is a great opening of this peculiar can of bees.

The band were angry and fast and Kimberly Rew (guitar) is frequently amazing throughout. Morris Windsor on drums keeps the start stop rhythms tight.

This was very much a soundtrack in my early 20's in Sussex. Going slightly mad with rural small town boredom in Hailsham and awkward relationships.
